Police Investigate 2 Separate Shootings Blocks Apart

Posted: Updated:

Police are investigating two separate shootings just blocks apart.

The shootings happened about two and a half hours apart and six blocks away from each other. Police say it's unbelievable that more people weren't hurt as the gunmen opened fire in crowded places.

The supermarket neighborhood store on the 1900 block of West Susquehanna in North Philadelphia was the scene of a deadly shooting that took place in front of close to a dozen people inside.

Police say just before 5p.m. Monday afternoon, a gunman unloaded 14 shots killing a 23-year-old man at point blank range.

"When the victim collapsed in one of the isles the shooter stands over the victim continues to fire shots from inches away which is clearly and execution style homicide," Chief Inspector Small of The Philadelphia Police said.

The victim died shortly after being taken to Temple Hospital.

Then just after 730p.m., 22nd district police on patrol heard a string of gunshots coming from near the 2500 block of North 17th street.

Police got there to find 21 spent shell casings on the street from two different semi-automatic handguns and a trail of blood.

Someone drove the victim, a 23-year-old shot four times, to Temple Hospital before police arrived. He's listed in stable condition.

Police are treating the shootings as isolated incidents but they're investigating to see if they are related
