River paddlers to compete in Darien race

Posted: Updated:

DARIEN, Ga. (AP) - Paddlers in Darien will be competing in a race this weekend to historic Fort King George.

The Florida Times-Union reports that kayakers, canoeists and paddle boarders will take to the Darien River on Saturday for a 2.4-mile race as part of the city's Fall Fest.

The course will take competitors along scenic and historic stretches of the Darien River.

The race wraps up near the oldest English fort remaining on Georgia's coast. From 1721 to 1736, the fort was the southernmost outpost of the British Empire in North America.
