LAKE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Drug Enforcement Agents and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies seized 123 pounds of pot from a Groveland home. The investigation began in Arizona, during a traffic stop when state police there found a huge shipment of high grade marijuana headed to the house in Lake County. Investigators tracked the delivery and when the guy living there accepted it, drug agents moved in. Neighbors like Mike Hutley watched as tactical teams with armored trucks stormed the house.“We were out on the back porch and heard someone yelling, ‘Stop, put your hands up!’ And I walked around the corner of the house there were deputies and all the tactical gear, helmets and vests and AR-15’s,” Hutley said.
Robert Jones was arrested after detectives said he accepted the giant shipment. In addition to the pot, investigators said they found a repacking and distribution operation here on Jones’ property, plus $20,000 in cash.“I’ve never seen suspicious people or lots of traffic, none of the things that go along with drug sales,” Hutley said.
In his booking info, Jones is listed as a watermelon broker. Hutley tells us, Jones lives with his wife, describing them as a quiet, polite couple. No one was at the home for comment.
Hutley added,“I just never would have had any feeling that anything like that was going on.” Jones was arrested on drug trafficking charges and booked into the Lake County jail. He bonded out, and is due back in court at the end of November.
