Police Arrest Alleged Temple Robbery Suspect

NORTH PHILADELPHIA -

Philadelphia Police have 45-year old Darryl Moon in custody for assaulting a Temple University professor.

They say he punched and stole the wallet of the 81-year-old professor at knife point on October 29 at around 11:20 a.m.

Police say Moon has a criminal past with 16 priors including robberies, assaults and thefts.

Surveillance video and photographs helped police identify him.

FOX 29's Jennifer Joyce spoke with a witness who saw the professor right after it happened.

We talked to one student who says he saw the professor minutes after he was attacked and he shared the details with us.

It's a cowardly act that Temple University Junior Greg Keating can't understand.

Keating says he was on the second floor of Anderson Hall where the assault took place and saw the elderly victim walking down the hallway after the attack.

"Why would you rob an 81-year-old man with a knife," Keating asked. "I looked up and I could see the left side of his face was bloody, probably about from his eye down to his jaw." 

Campus Police Officials say that the wallet was later found inside of a mailbox at 13th and Montgomery Streets. Investigators checked that piece of evidence for fingerprints and hoped that people who recognize the ruthless man to come forward to police.

In the meantime, the big question on campus still remains, how did this happen?

Students expressed mixed feelings about campus security.

 "I think they do a good job with security for the most part at temple but it's a big building lots of students," Daniel Craig, a Temple University senior said.

"What does it take for the security to wake up? We have guards everywhere; they don't check IDs? Does it take an 80-year-old man assaulted to realize?" Maureen Adamson, a Temple University senior said.

Students agree on one thing: they feel terrible for the victim.
