Mom Rallies To Keep Pet

Posted: Updated:

A family in Somers Point, NJ in Atlantic County is fighting to keep their four legged pet, a cute and friendly miniature pig named Sheldon.

The town has issued a zoning violation to the family, and Susannah Slaughter, Sheldon's owner could face 30 days in prison and up to $2000 in fines.

Susannah Slaughter, a disabled military veteran, tells FOX 29 that her family adopted the miniature pig back in April, and it's brought the family much joy. Slaughter's five year old son plays with the pig all the time.

She also says that she tried to bring some pictures to the judge during her court appearance on October 15th, but she was never given an opportunity to speak up or show her pet to officials.

"I can only pray that with enough support, understanding, compassion, and rationale the City will be willing to look at all the angles of my situation, come to my home, meet Sheldon, see that he is no threat to anyone or anything," Slaughter tells FOX 29. "He could melt the heart of Antarctica."

Slaughter has also started a Facebook group to gain support for her keeping her pet. The group has gained more than 1,000 likes.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
