LILBURN, Ga. -

FOX 5 Sports and the NASCAR community lost a close friend on Friday morning.  Longtime Atlanta Motor Speedway marketing and promotions director Marcy Scott passed away after a long battle with breast cancer.  Marcy was 42.

Marcy died at her parents' home in Lilburn, where she had been under hospice care. She is survived by her parents, Buck and Charlotte, and her brother Stewart.

Marcy joined AMS in 2005, and she led promotional and advertising efforts for AMS for more than eight years.  Prior to that, she worked for several different sponsors and teams, including Jeff Green, Matt Kenseth and Ricky Craven.

"We will all miss her charisma, her penchant for detail and her way of making any task fun and enjoyable," AMS president Ed Clark said in a statement Friday morning.  "To people throughout the NASCAR and the Atlanta media communities, she was a great friend and a consummate professional."

She was initially diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, and she underwent extensive treatment.  Earlier this year, she learned the cancer had returned.  She had surgery to remove a tumor on her brain, but never fully recovered.

News of Marcy's death spread quickly on twitter.  FOX Sports' Mike Joy tweeted, "@MarcylScott beat cancer with humor, grace and a strong will. The cancer returned, and took her today. So very sad."  PRN's Doug Rice tweeted a photo of Marcy, saying, "I'm happy & proud to have known and called @marcylscott a dear friend, God has a very special angel, you were loved by many, what a legacy"  He added, "Thanks Marcy Scott for making the world so much better, miss you and love you, Rest In Peace and Bless your family.

Kasey Kahne also tweeted, "Sad to hear Marcy Scott lost her battle with cancer this morning. She was always the nicest lady. Always had a smile. Thoughts and prayers."

Joey Logano, who set up a fund to raise money for Marcy's treatment and care after learning her cancer had returned, tweeted, "Very sad to hear about Marcy Scott losing her battle with cancer. was such a great part of our sport."

Long before she was part of NASCAR, Marcy was a High 5 Sports original, cheering for the Parkview Panthers.  She was Panther alum Jeff Francoeur's favorite babysitter.  Marcy was an Atlanta native and a UGA grad.  She loved the Bulldogs, her cats and lobster bisque.

Marcy was a good friend to FOX 5 Sports, and was loved by many who had the privilege of knowing her.  She'll be missed.

A viewing will be held Sunday, November 3 from 4-7 p.m. at Crowell Brothers Funeral Home in Peachtree Corners, and a celebration of her life will take place on Monday, November 4 at noon at Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Stone Mountain.  A reception will follow at Berkeley Hills Country Club in Duluth.

Donations can be made to the Piedmont Healthcare Foundation in Marcy's memory:
