DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Classmates gathered on Friday to honor a much-loved Miller Grove High School basketball player who died suddenly last weekend.

Terrell Coleman died after collapsing during an all-star game in Stone Mountain on Sunday. The 15-year-old had garnered national attention for his stellar basketball skills. Classmates said Coleman brought joy both on and off the court.

Students, parents and staff held a celebration of life for Coleman at Eddie J. White Academy in Hampton on Friday.

Terrell's phenomenal basketball skills were on display during his time at Eddie J. White Academy. The nationally-ranked player helped his team clinch the Clayton County middle school basketball championship last season. His #8 basketball jersey was officially retired in his honor and will now hang in the middle school gym.

Coleman was described as incredibly talented, yet humble, polite, respectful and possessing a deep Christian faith. Those who shared his middle school years said Coleman will forever live on in their hearts and minds.

Teachers and coaches said Coleman rose to every challenge on and off the basketball court. His years were short but it was clear he left a lasting legacy.
