Friends, Family Remember Teen Killed By Cars

VINELAND, N.J. -

It's been less than a week since a teenager was killed on her way to catch a school bus. She was hit by two cars.

On Sunday evening, her classmates and the community who loved, her are still reeling over what happened, but they came together to remember her in a big way. FOX 29's Chris O'Connell was there.

Alexa Strittmatter was just 14-years-old when she was she was struck and killed by 2 cars early Wednesday morning on her way to the school bus stop. Tonight family friends and classmates gather to honor the life that ended all too soon.

The words of the song "Moments" by One Direction, her favorite band, seemed appropriate on a chilly and somber November night.

With candles in hand, one by one, classmates at Vineland High School North took to the microphone sharing stories about the funny, smart 9th grader with a million watt smile.

One of them was her best friend since kindergarten.

"She was perfect. She was beautiful everybody loved her. She always had a smile on her face," Juliette Brown said

Classmates got the sobering news as they got to school last week that Alex was struck and killed while walking to the bus stop along Main Road outside her Vineland home.

"I don't even know how I'm going to get through the rest of my life without her," Brown said.

Among those in attendance was her father who managed to say a few words days after losing his youngest daughter.

Alexa was an excellent student, a dancer, and loved by many of her classmates who came out, A lot of them wore orange the color of her hair and her favorite color purple.

This is 100-percent student driven. Everything they are doing to selling wristbands to candles to poems. 100-percent student based," Vineland High School North Principal Mario Olsen said.

Friends are hoping with their Twitter campaign #1DFORALEXA that One Direction will hear her story-and somehow acknowledge on of their biggest fans.

Vineland Police say the crash is still under investigation. So far, no charges have been filed.
