Va. attorney general race remains undecided a day later

Posted: Updated:

The race for attorney general in Virginia remains undecided, with a recount looking increasingly likely.

The State Board of Elections says unofficial results Wednesday afternoon put Republican Mark Obenshain up by 1,157 votes over Democrat Mark Herring out of 2.2 million votes cast.

The vote total does not include provisional ballots. Those are votes cast by people who went to the wrong precinct or did not have the required ID. Absentee ballots have been counted.

Local election officials have until Nov. 12 to finish certifying their counts.

In Virginia, a candidate can call for a recount if the margin is less than 1 percent. The margin in the AG's race is well within that threshold.
