Goldey-Beacom College Student Charged With Rape

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police say a 23-year-old Goldey-Beacom College graduate student has been charged with raping a woman at his campus apartment.

The 18-year-old woman, who is also Goldey-Beacom student, visited Carlos Bastardo's apartment at Miller Hall early Sunday. Police say Bastardo began making unwanted advances, then assaulted the woman sexually. She was able to flee and went to a local hospital before calling police.

Bastardo, who is from Venezuela, was arrested at his apartment and charged with second-degree rape without consent. Bastardo is being held in Young Correctional Institution on $120,000 bail.

Goldey-Beacom Vice President Gary Wirt says Bastardo's enrollment will be reviewed.
