PHOENIX -

Rock star Alice Cooper, a valley resident, puts on a huge show every December.  Alice Cooper's Christmas Pudding raises money for his Solid Rock Foundation.

This year, he held auditions for an opening act and the winners took the stage by storm.

The music is so intense, you can't help but move.  The talent undeniable.

"There's eight people total.  Six guitar players, one drummer, one base player and enough guy liner to put Cover Girl to shame," said AJ Rodriguez.

These are young guitarists who know how to shred their instrument.

"We have a great guitar teacher, great school, great environment," said James Shaffer.

They call themselves The Guitarnauts.  They attend the Arizona Conservatory for Arts and Academics in north Phoenix.

"One thing that was different about us is that we didn't have a singer," said Rodriguez.

All eight of them are enrolled in an advanced music class and together, they auditioned for Alice Cooper to be the opening act for his Christmas Pudding show in December.

"The first auditions were at the Hard Rock and we made it to the semi-finals which was at Cooper'stown and the finals were two days also at Cooper'stown that was the Wednesday and Thursday this past week," said Nick Hildebrendt.

The Guitarnauts have only been playing together for a couple of years here at the ACAA.  They beat out 57 other bands to win this competition.

"Our guitar teacher, Mr. Acock was just looking for an opportunity to get them out there and get out into the community and have them see what was out there to try it wasn't with the goal of winning," said Adam Berger, ACAA's music director.

Most of the other bands that tried out were more experienced, but in this case, age didn't matter.  The proof was obviously in the pudding.

Alice Cooper's Christmas Pudding show is December 7th at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix.  Tickets are on sale now and cost between $40 and $250.
