RIDGE, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man has been arrested on Long Island after police say he shot and killed his girlfriend then barricaded himself inside an apartment, at one point trading fire with responding officers.
Suffolk County Police say they were called to a domestic dispute at an apartment complex in Ridge just after 11:30 a.m. Sunday. They say the unidentified man shot and killed his girlfriend before barricading himself inside the apartment with two children.
Police say the man eventually let the children go. That's when they say the suspect fired at responding Emergency Service Unit officers, who returned fire. Nobody was injured in the exchange.
Police say the man finally surrendered. The investigation is ongoing.
