D.C. residents confused about how to sign up for Obamacare are invited to an all-day, citywide enrollment fair this weekend, just as House Speaker John Boehner announces problems trying to sign up.
He posted on his website pictures of himself trying to get health insurance through DC Health Link and noted that after multiple attempts, he got at least two error messages. Boehner says he called in to their help desk. At 5:35 p.m. Thursday, Boehner says they called back a few hours later, and successfully enrolled after restarting the process two more times on the website.
Meanwhile, the health exchange is gearing up for an enrollment fair on Saturday at the Martin Luther King Memorial Library. There will be information and sign-in tables and booths as well as activities for children.
Health Link Executive Director Mila Kofman acknowledges that there is rampant confusion, but she insists that the city's health exchange is fully operational and open for business. She says DC Health Link is not part of the federal marketplace that has been plagued with problems.
