2 Georgia gang members face life sentence

Posted: Updated:

ATLANTA (AP) - Two Georgia gang members face up to life in prison after being convicted for their roles in a crime spree that U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said "set the standard for violence."

A federal court jury returned guilty verdicts Friday against 27-year-old Remberto Argueta of Lilburn and 31-year-old William Espinoza of Norcoss. Each was convicted of racketeering conspiracy involving murder and violent crime in aid of racketeering. They were members of the MS-13 gang.

Prosecutors said Espinoza shot a man at a DeKalb County nightclub and killed a man during a robbery in Gwinnett County in 2008.

They said Argueta shot and killed a suspected drug dealer during an attempted robbery at a hotel in 2007.

A sentencing date has not been set.
