Many valley homes sustain roof damage during rain storm

Posted: Updated:

Last week's rain which lasted from Thursday evening into Sunday was one of the biggest rain events the valley has seen for decades.

All that rain is gone now, but for some, it left behind some damage.

One roofing company says it had hundreds of calls a day during the last weekend.

"Pulled the garage door open to find that all of the cabinets had fallen away from the wall and the contents were scattered all over the floor," said Barbara Zapata.

Ron Zapata added, "They have been here for the last week drying it.  The fans going on night and day."

The problem actually started in October with a light rain, but with this weekend's big rain, the roof finally gave way.

"We don't get this type of rain very often.. if it's a quarter inch, you won't see the leak coming through.  You may see the leak in the attic and you wouldn't know until you get two and a half inches like we got this weekend," said Kirk Snow.

Inca Roofing has been incredibly busy the last week.  It's had about 250 calls a day since the heavy storm hit.

"The times that we do have the rain.. we appreciate the fact that we need the rain, but we don't need it in our garage," said Barbara.

The process here will take another several sunny days.

Inca Roofing says it may be a good idea to check around the house after every rain -- no matter how light.
