Reza Farahan: The Accent Sometimes Doesn't Fit

Reza Farahan of "Shahs of Sunset" says it was Middle Eastern attitudes toward homosexuality that prompted him to pursue reality TV fame.

"I never thought this show would go anywhere," Farahan told The Huffington Post. "I only wanted to be on it for one reason, and that was to bring some awareness about homophobia in the Middle Eastern community.  I went in as an open book, and I thought, 'Whatever will be, will be.'"

And how does he view himself? "I identify as the most un-Muslim, semi-Jewish, stunningly beautiful gay Persian man living in Los Angeles."

1) Is an American reality television series on Bravo. The series debuted on March 11, 2012, and the first season finale was the highest rated episode of the series, at the time, with 1.8 million total viewers.

It is the second American reality television show about Iranians after E!'s Love Is in the Heir in 2004. Shahs of Sunset has been renewed for a third season, which premiered on November 5, 2013.

3) Farahan was born in Tehran, Iran in 1973 and raised in Beverly Hills, He is a 39-year-old real estate agent in Los Angeles. He is openly gay and often struggles with gossip and prejudice regarding his sexuality. He wanted to participate in the show after seeing news reports of the suicides of teenagers who were bullied because they were gay, and he wanted to help by portraying a positive image of both gay people and Middle Easterners.

‘Shahs Of Sunset' airs Tuesday nights at 10:00pm on Bravo.
