Va's historically tight AG's race heads to recount

RICHMOND, Va. -

Virginia's historically close race for attorney general is headed to a recount.

Republican Mark Obenshain says he'll formally request the recount Wednesday. He's making his legal team available to explain the decision.

The State Board of Elections on Monday certified Democrat Mark Herring's 165-vote edge over Obenshain. It did so, however, as the board's chairman expressed concerns about the "integrity" of the statewide vote.

Charles Judd specifically mentioned a lack of uniformity tallying votes statewide.

While Republicans cheered Obainshain's decision, Herring said in a statement his opponent's decision to seek a recount would not "impede" his efforts to assemble a team at the attorney general's office ahead of the 2014 session of the General Assembly.
