Mesa vandalism spree: 20 vehicles have tires slashed

Posted: Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -

Some folks in Mesa woke up on Thanksgiving to a knock on the door from police, telling them their car had been vandalized.

More than 20 vehicles had their tires slashed sometime Wednesday night in this neighborhood near Country Club and Guadalupe Roads.

What's more infuriating -- this isn't the first time some of these folks have dealt with this.

"I think it's terrible," said Charles Roth.

Roth woke up to find all four tires on his truck had been slashed.

"I just don't understand why they've got to do things like that," he said.

What's even more upsetting -- Roth's truck was vandalized just two weeks ago when someone slashed one of his truck tires.

"I just hope they catch them sooner than later so we can get this out of the way because replacing four tires at a time gets real expensive," he said.

"You can see it's from here to here, so they really got that tire," said Susan Hernandez.  Two tires on her car were punctured.

"Happy Thanksgiving, right.." she said.  "It's just a pain.  It's sad that's what we're doing for Thanksgiving is going around to neighborhoods and slashing tires."

Mesa Police say this all began around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday.  They immediately saturated the neighborhood, but no suspects were caught.  With this being the second time this has happened, it has some neighbors concerned it could happen again.

"I'm just worried they're going to come and get them again.. that's the biggest worry.  They'll be back to get them again," said Mike Diederich, whose truck tires were slashed.

"A big pain in the butt, a big pricey pain in the butt.  Tires aren't cheap," said Hernandez.
