Man killed in RV crash on I-95

Posted: Updated:

A fatal crash sparked a small brush fire in a wooded area near I-95 in Volusia County.  Sgt. Kim Montes with Florida Highway Patrol told FOX 35 the accident unfolded when the driver of the RV blew a tire while driving north bound on I-95 Saturday afternoon.

The blown tire caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle, so he went off of the road.  The RV went into a wooded area on Willow Run Boulevard before crashing into some trees and catching on fire.

This then sparked a small brush fire in the area.  However, Volusia County Fire got a handle on the fire and put it out before it could spread any further.

The accident tied up the road for hours, but it since has been reopened.  The driver died on the scene, but at this time, it's unclear whether he died from his injuries, or smoke inhalation.

We won't find out that information until his autopsy is done by the Medical Examiner's office.  The name and age of the victim isn't being released at this time.
