Amazon.com ready for Cyber Monday rush

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -

It's Cyber Monday, and one of the largest online retailers in the world says they're ready for it.  Amazon.com hired 70,000 seasonal employees this year, and they're busier than ever before.

Last year, Amazon sold 300 items per second on Cyber Monday, and they expect this year to be even bigger.  Good Day's Paul Milliken went behind the scenes at the Amazon Distribution Center in Chattanooga to get a first-hand look at Cyber Monday.

Also making news is word from Amazon that they're considering using drone aircraft for deliveries in the future. They say they're working on their Prime Air project in research and development labs.  If they proceed, they would be able to deliver purchases to customers in  less than 30 minutes through the use of unmanned aircraft.

The company says it would take years to advance the technology needed to follow through on the project, which would also require rules and regulations to be created by the Federal Aviation Administration.   If they proceed, they hope to have it up and running by 2015.
