Malls To Accommodate Autistic Children For Santa Visits

Posted: Updated:

Trips to the mall to see Santa can be overwhelming, but now, several malls are trying to change that for one group of kids.

Normal mall visits during the holiday season can be chaotic, but for children with autism, the experience can be unbearable. The noise and crowds often confuse and frighten kids with autism, and many families end up never taking their kid or kids to visit Santa.

That's why several malls in Canada are offering special "Quiet Visits" for kids with autism. The visits occur before opening time, so it's not as hectic.

Quiet visits are slowly starting to take shape here in the US, with a few malls offering similar programs. In Virginia Beach, for example, about 70 families are expected to go visit Santa during quiet hours.
