(FOX 11/ CNS) - More overnight freeway closures and ramp shutdowns are in store for the Golden State (5) Freeway in the San Fernando Valley, Caltrans warned today.
The state and Metro are in the midst of rebuilding 3.4 miles of freeway that was built 55 years ago, and is also adding carpool lanes, exit lanes and a carpool flyover at the split with the Hollywood (170) Freeway.
All traffic on the southbound 5 will be diverted to the southbound 170 Freeway from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. every night, between now and Dec. 20.
Traffic heading towards Burbank or Los Angeles can either get off the 170 at Sheldon Street and follow detour signs to the 5 onramp from Sheldon, or take the 170 further south to the Ventura (134) Freeway, to rejoin the 5.
No full closures are planned for the northbound 5, but up to three lanes will be closed between from 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. between the 170 and the Ronald Reagan (118) freeways. And up to four lanes on the southbound 5 will be closed from the 118 to the 170 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Those overnight partial shutdowns are in effect through Dec. 20.
In addition, the following partial ramps closures will be made:
-- Northbound 5 Freeway onramp to westbound Osborne Street from, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-- Northbound 5 Freeway offramp at Branford Street from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-- Southbound 170 Freeway onramp to Sheldon/Arleta streets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In a separate project, only one lane in each direction of the 5 will be open between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly in Santa Clarita, as new truck lanes are built.
