No excuse to drink and drive: Transportation companies offer holiday deals

Posted: Updated:

The holidays bring more parties and that can mean more drinking and valley law enforce agencies say they'll be out in full force looking for any drunk drivers -- but there is a "safe" way to get home.

Valley transportation companies are all on board -- with one message this holiday season: there's no excuse to drink and drive as more companies are offering you cheap ways to avoid getting behind the wheel..

Valley Metro rides will be free from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. on New Year's Eve and if you don't want to leave your car behind after a night out drinking, this holiday season, Discount Cab will give you a free ride the next morning to pick your car up.

"DUI laws are the stricter here in Arizona I think than any other state in the country, so more and more drivers are aware of that ,so they are taking more precautions," said Steve Thompson, general manager of Phoenix UBER.

UBER is another way to get around.  The app let's you see all the drivers located around your current location -- showing in real time how long it will take a driver to get to get to you --and now they are offering a deal.

"If you put in the promo code you just put in uber phoenix holiday giving any new riders $20 dollars off their first trip on us," said Thompson.

Cab companies across the valley are getting a financial lift from the season.

"Usually during the holidays, we are up 20 percent.  Just about a week ago, we dispatched 17,000 calls in one day, which I think is a new U.S. record," said Craig Hughes, CEO of Total Transit.

It all translates to more cash for your local driver.
