Teen say she was approached by man impersonating police officer

PALM COAST, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Deputies in Flagler County have increased patrols after a teenager who was walking to her bus stop on Monday morning said she was approached by a man she believes was impersonating a police officer.

It happened on Crompton Place in Palm Coast early Thursday morning.

Deputies said she saw the man looking at her in the car.  She said he was wearing a green uniform shirt and the vehicle tag number on the car was covered with paper.

She said the man shouted out, "Hey!" trying to strike up a conversation.

Lt. Rob Weber with the Flagler County Sheriff's office said, "Anytime someone you don't know pops in to strike up a conversation, there's always concern."

The man yelled at her not to run, saying she was resisting arrest, as if he was a police officer.
The girl said she ran behind a neighbor's house and the man drove away.

The girl told a family member that night, but police didn't find out about the incident until the next day, when she reported the situation to her school liaison officer.

"When something like that happens it's extremely important you get that out to law enforcement so they can address the problem at the time it's occurring," said Weber.
