Gloria Gaynor 'We Will Survive'

Posted: Updated:
MYFOXNY.COM - Gloria Gaynor's most popular hit - 'I Will Survive'- still gets plenty of play decades after its initial release.

But the legendary singer's 'anthem' was rooted in a desperate need to survive abuse.

Gaynor has released an inspirational book about survival titled, 'We Will Survive.'

"Its 40 stories of real life people going through real life trauma and surviving through the power of the song ‘I Will Survive," said Gaynor.

The Newark, NJ native tells of a traumatic childhood that was the result of repeated sexual abuse.

“I had very low self-esteem and I was a real people pleaser, insecure,” said Gaynor.

"That song was the answer to prayer. But then a couple of years later I relied on the song myself to help me through different things and recognize that I would survive. The song initiated that belief that I will survive," said Gaynor.

At least a dozen scathing reviews were printed about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s new book on a preservative used in vaccines before it was released. It's not fair, says Kennedy Jr., and he explained why during Good Day New York. "They attacked me for what they believed was going to be in the book which was a discussion about autism and that is not in the book," said Kennedy Jr.
