Chicago Heights woman is 4th cold-related death of the season

CHICAGO HEIGHTS, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A south suburban woman is the fourth cold-related death of the season in Cook County.

Carolyn Wilkins, 61, died at Franciscan St. James Health in Chicago Heights at 8:32 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Wilkins, of the 1200 block of Damico Drive in Chicago Heights, died of heart disease, hypothermia and diabetes, a Wednesday autopsy found.

Wilkins' death was the fourth of the season in Cook County to be caused at least partly by cold weather.

52-year-old David Kraft was discovered under a bridge Nov. 26 on the West Side, according to the medical examiner's office. He was pronounced dead there in the 3000 block of West Washington. An autopsy found Kraft died of hypothermia, cold exposure and alcoholism.

50-year-old Daniel Badillo was found in the 3100 block of West 99th Street and pronounced dead at St. Anthony Hospital on Nov. 24, according to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy found he died of hypothermia, cold exposure, and acute and chronic alcoholism.

A 64-year-old woman found dead in the North Side Uptown neighborhood in October was the season's first cold-related death. Beverly Weaver was found dead in the 1500 block of West Lawrence Avenue on Oct. 25, according to the medical examiner's office. An autopsy found she died of hypothermia, cold exposure and HCVD.

All of the deaths have been ruled accidental.
