Dog Saves Owner After Hit & Run Accident

Posted: Updated:

You hear quotes that dogs are man's best friend, but this story takes that statement to a whole new meaning.

The accident happened last month in Dorchester, Massachusetts when John Miles was walking his faithful companion Lucy. Out of nowhere a car speeding down the road hit both Lucy and her owner.

John says he remembers blacking out while Lucy, with two broken legs, limped to a dentist desperately searching for help.

Lucy kept barking until someone heard her cries, then she went back to John staying by his side while help arrived.

John has two broken legs, a broken arm, along with 15 facial fractures, but realizes he is lucky to be alive because of his number one fan, Lucy.

Her love for him does not come as a surprise since John says, "that's the type of dog she is."

Lucy is a beagle, and her dog breed actually has tear ducts, which Caitlan, John's daughter, saw while John was in the hospital.

"After the accident, when I was home with her, she had tears pouring down her fur. She was walking around lost without him,"Caitlan said.

John missed Lucy just as much, and is excited to come back home to spend time with her.

"Once the winter is over, if I'm recovered and Lucy's recovered you can bet we'll be out doing our walking again," John said.

Lucy will be having surgery this Friday for her injuries that include a torn ACL and leg fractures.

Police are also still investigating the driver of the speeding vehicle.
