PARK RIDGE, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two Chicago men were charged with burglarizing a north suburban home after a neighbor reported their suspicious behavior to police.

Jonathon Resto, 21, of the 1100 block of West Lawndale Avenue; and Juan Jose Rea Jr., 25, of the 2100 block of North Latrobe, broke into a home on the 1100 block of Granville Avenue in Park Ridge just before 11 a.m. Dec. 11, according to Park Ridge police.

Both ran from responding police officers, but Resto was taken into custody about a block away after he ran through the backyard of the home, police said.

Officer needed assistance from a Rosemont police K-9 unit to locate Rea, who was found hiding under a tarp in the backyard of a home on the 1300 block of Bonita Drive.

Deputy Police Chief Lou Jogmen said the witness called police after seeing two men walking on the property of the Granville home. The men had entered the home before officers arrived, hen said.

"They ransacked the house completely," he said. "Some items of jewelry were located in the snow after we apprehended them."

Both Resto and Rea were charged with one count of residential burglary. Rea was also charged with one count of obstruction.

They are not suspected in any other burglaries at this time, Jogmen said.

Park Ridge Police Chief Frank Kaminski credited the witness who contacted police.

"This was a textbook example of police and community working together to help keep the community safe," he said in a statement. "It all started with a call from a neighbor who felt something was wrong and it was quickly brought to a successful conclusion ..."

Resto and Rea were scheduled to appear in court Friday, but bond information was not immediately available.
