Palm Coast continues to recover from destructive tornado

Posted: Updated:

PALM COAST—Seven homes were destroyed and 164 others damaged in a tornado that struck Saturday around 7 p.m., according to city officials.

The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado hit the Indian Trails neighborhood and gave the tornado a preliminary rating of EF1.

John Coberly lives at the intersection of Bayside Street and Bannerwood Drive in that neighborhood. He told FOX 35 that the tornado knocked him from near his bedroom, through his dining area and out on the lanai where he was trapped by debris."When I came down, the debris covered me about that high with insulation first," Coberly said, indicating that the debris was about chest high. "Plywood sheets were hitting me on the back but it didn't do any damage because insulation was on my back," he continued.

There were no reports of deaths from the tornado.
