OCALA, Fla. (WOGX FOX 51) -

Guns in every home.  One Marion County Group hopes that will happen.

Members of Marion County Campaign for Liberty are pushing for an resolution that will encourage every household in the county to own a gun.

"Marion County has already supported a resolution that supports the Second Amendment," said Commission Chairman Carl Zalak.  "People arming themselves in relation to the Constitution."

There are some exceptions to this proposal, like banning those with mental disabilities and making sure everyone is properly trained to use a firearm.

"I think we'll bring it back and vet that a little further," said the chairman.

The group says that, if this passes, it will help drop the crime rate.

"What we're doing today is advising people that they should protect themselves, it's really up to them to protect themselves," said Jim Burkiewicz, who presented the proposal to the commission Tuesday morning.

No vote was taken. Commissioners are going to look more into this proposal and discuss it in the coming months.
