Darby Township Police Reach Out To Families Victimized By Fires, Accidents

Posted: Updated:

FOX 29 cameras were the only ones there when members of a local police department opened their hearts in this season of giving. They're reaching out to help families who lost everything.

Christmas came a little early for these families in Darby Township. Thursday afternoon after their lives were turned upside down last month by two devastating fires that left them homeless.

Darby Township Police do a toy and food basket drive every year for needy folks in town, this year the array of toys, bikes and gifts will benefit the children victimized by those fires and a recent fatal accident.

For Alan McCall and his family the past few weeks have been devastating. They lost their home and their possessions, but the police, several local unions and the Marine Corps came to the rescue to provide gifts and food for Christmas. Alan McCall Jr. was overwhelmed with his new bike.

Sherry Ann Bedford was brought to tears watching her son Alex and his twin sister Alexis pour through the gifts they received. They lost their home on Clifton Avenue in a big fire.

For the police officers involved in this gift of giving, there were plenty of smiles and helping hands as they loaded the gifts into each family's car for the ride home to a Merry Christmas.
