Stores Start Extended Hours For Holiday Shoppers

Posted: Updated:
CHERRY HILL, N.J. -

The rush to get Christmas shopping done has officially started. People are trying to get in, get gifts and get them wrapped as fast as they can.

"It has been fun, but I'm definitely feeling the crunch now," said Shanna Markiewicz shopping at Cherry Hill Mall.

Many people don't want to be out next week up until Christmas Eve, so they're prepared to fight the crowds this weekend.

"It's crazy. Parking is crazy. You have to follow people to their cars to get a spot that's close," said Markiewicz.

Stores are trying to make it easier for last-minute shoppers, as they do every year.

Cherry Hill Mall stores extended hours until 11 p.m. Department stores like Macy's are open 24 hours until 6 p.m. Christmas Eve.

"I'll be back here probably Tuesday again," admitted Carl D'Angelo while shopping with his son.

Not everyone will be out, though.

Tammy Markiewicz said, "No, definitely not. We're out late now. We're usually done by now, so I think it's not a good thing to be open 24 hours. Everybody should be home with their families."

Toys 'R Us is extending holiday hours until 1 a.m. through Christmas Eve.

"It's insane. It's absolutely crazy," said Maria and Nick Meremianin, who were shopping for their daughter.

"I actually scoped it out earlier today, when it wasn't that busy, to find out exactly what I was going to get. So, I came back and got in and out really quick. We were lucky," they said.

Kohl's on Route 38 in Cherry Hill started it's 24 hours through Christmas Eve, while stores like Target are extending hours until 12 a.m.
