There is no bigger underdog this bowl season than No. 15 UCF.
According to the Las Vegas sportsbooks, the Knights are the biggest underdog of all 35 bowl games with a 17.5-point spread.
This should not come as a surprise.
UCF is making its first-ever appearance in a Bowl Championship Series game, and despite only having one three-point loss to No. 9 South Carolina, the most prominent results on the Knights' schedule are close wins over Memphis, Temple, USF, and SMU - teams that have combined for a total of 12 wins this season.
However, the Knights seem to be ignoring this role leading up to their New Year's Day showdown with Baylor. In fact, history is on their side.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, since 2009, UCF has only lost one game by more than 17 points. And since that 21-point loss on October 15, 2009, the Golden Knights have only lost one game by more than seven points.
"We just bend but don't break," UCF junior safety Brandon Alexander said. "We might fracture a little bit sometimes, but we've got to make sure we get back and do what we do."
UCF hopes to continue that trend when they face sixth-ranked Baylor in the Fiesta Bowl. Kickoff is set for January 1 at 8:30 p.m.
