Dr. Mona House Call: Holidays can trigger, exacerbate eating disorders

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Holidays are known for feasting and overeating, but they can also trigger or exacerbate eating disorders - especially for those who are grieving or have suffered a loss, or are in recovery.

For Monday's House Call, Dr. Mona Khanna interviewed two guests on whose personal experiences in recovery and in providing therapy helped shed light on this heart-wrenching condition as well as information about a new residential facility designated for eating disorders that will open early next year.

Thanks to Brittany Findlan, a recovering bulimic, and Dr. Ashley Solomon, Psychologist, for joining Good Day Chicago to shed light on this important topic.

Some tips for getting through the stress of the holiday week ahead include:

  • Eat regularly and reasonably
  • Discuss your anticipation of the holidays
  • Have a plan before you go home or invite others
  • Make a call if you are struggling
  • Avoid over-stressing and overbooking
