Groomzillas: Yes, they exist

You've may have heard of the bridezilla or been unlucky enough to witness one with your own two eyes: the cake smashing, always agitated, incredibly opinionated, princess in white cracking under the pressure of her big day.

And while it's hard to believe there would ever be a male equivalent, there is.

The groomzilla: just as terrifying as his female counterpart, always in control, or really out of control, and detail obsessed.

Jeff Trinci, the creator of the Groom's List -- a men's wedding advice website, describes the groomzilla is a fairly new phenomenon. As older men marry and pick up a larger chunk of the bill, they want more of a say. And sometimes, the stress of the wedding takes over.

A study done by the research marketing firm Mintel shows, 32 percent of men find wedding planning overwhelming. It is a not-so-surprising reality considering that same study showed: 39 percent of men are mostly responsible for picking the ceremony site, 25 percent have to choose the bridal party gifts, and a whopping 19 percent of men are in charge of choosing the bride's wedding dress.

Need a visual? Music superstar Kanye West is engaged to Kim Kardashian. Jordanna Lippe of In Touch magazine says that Kanye's recent philosophy is go big or go home. She says he's a total groomzilla, he's into details, and he wants it to be the fashion event of the year. So he's in control of the guest list and Kim's dress. Lippe says Kanye's over-the-top proposal at AT&T Ball Park in San Fransisco is as a prime example of Kanye's "go big or go home" approach.

And he isn't the only one.

How about Brad Pitt? Sure, he's been married before so he shouldn't fit the mold. But he, like many celebrity men, is a control freak -- and that's not something he can turn off when the wedding bells chime.

"Celebrity men want to have total control of their lives and their careers -- so when it comes time to getting married, of course they are going to want total control over that," Lippe says. "It just seems to be very popular in the celebrity world that men are becoming groomzillas."
