Christmas tree, other holiday exhibits at the Metropolitan

NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

The tree at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the most iconic Christmas trees in New York. The 20-foot blue spruce and its Neapolitan baroque crèche have wowed visitors to the every holiday season for almost 60 years.

"We do have enchanting scenes we change, something is always new in the tree," said Linn Howard, for whom decorating the tree is personal. The meticulously handcrafted angels and cherubs once belonged to her mother, Loretta Hines Howard, who gifted them along with the nativity scenes to the museum in 1964.

"It's done by famous artists of the 18th Century," Howard said. "They were the very best artists and the time and it was done by very great love by my mother and spiritual devotion."

Each year Howard helps with the arrangement.

"People love it and it brings a lot of good wishes with it," she said.

The tree will be up through January 6.

Other seasonal exhibits and rare pieces are available to see at the Met right now. Among them is one of the finest Hebrew manuscripts ever created and a stunning Torah crown.

"We are looking at an exceptional new acquisition for the Met Museum which was this large Torah crown made in mid-18th Century in Venice, in Italy," said Wolfram Koeppe, the curator.

The Torah crown is made of solid sterling silver.

Nearby we found a trove of solid gold.

"The beginning part of this show focuses on this beautiful gold regalia, extraordinary gold jewelry," said Denise Leidy, curator of Asian art.

The exhibit, called Silla Korea's Golden Kingdom, features jewelry and religious paraphernalia found inaccessible tombs dating back to the 4th Century. All of the artifacts are on loan from museums in Korea. You have until February 23 to take it all in.

"You will never see all of it together in this way ever again," Leidy said.

From coffee shops in Brooklyn to restaurants in Manhattan, we find speakeasies standing out by blending in. When people in Bushwick want a green machine juice blend they visit Leticia Castillo's Owl Juice Pub. But first they must find the owl. "We been doing fine without a sign," Castillo says.
