An exploding trend: 'Work-out wear' is everywhere

Posted: Updated:

Have you noticed more sports clothing stores opening up?

In one city block alone there is a store selling fashionable work out gear, then another one right across the street and just up the street is a third store.

Fashion experts say the reason is that everyday fashion is moving more toward athletic wear.

They say it's a trend. Women are wearing workout clothes as every day wear.

Instead of putting on a pair of jeans and a sweater, they're wearing yoga pants and other fitness clothes.

“It's so much more comfortable.... and it makes your butt look good,” said one woman.

Lindsay Huggins is the Senior Fashion Marketing Editor at 'Self Magazine'. This month's issue featured athletic-inspired fashion.

She says with designers like Stella McCartney partnering with Adidas it’s created a trend, an explosion.

Plus Huggins says it's also a status symbol.

"What brand you wear and how many outfits you have. Women are dressing to impress and the clothes are not cheap,” she said.

So for many, they’re hoping its money well spent.
