The New Year will mean an end to a popular New York City tourist attraction.
Mayor elect Bill De Blasio says he plans to ban the iconic horse and carriage rides once he takes office in 2014.
De Blasio wants to replace them with antique style electric cars.
He says the horse and buggies are inhumane and dangerous for the animals to work in the busy city streets.
Supporters of the carriages say they are an iconic part of the city and that the move could hurt the city's tourism industry.
