Tent City Freeze-Out

Posted: Updated:
Lakewood, New Jersey (My9NJ) - Residents of Lakewood’s tent city are doing their best to endure the cold winter weather. Many of them have wood burning stoves which help to give off heat in their tents, but the township is not happy about this way of keeping warm and has filed complaints against the residents.

Now Minister Steve has a lawsuit against the township for harassment. He said that the police have come into tent city and towed his school bus which he uses to transport supplies to the people in the community.

Since there is no shelter in Ocean County for these people to move into, the township has agreed to allow them to live on public land and also vowed to help find these residents low income housing. So far only one person has received help from the town. Over 100 people are currently still living in tent city.
