Drivers waiting to cut their commute time through Ybor City will have to wait a little while longer for relief. The Florida Department of Transportation is delaying the opening of the Connector project between the Selmon Crosstown Expressway and Interstate 4.
Instead of Friday morning, FDOT hopes to have the span open at 5 a.m. Monday morning.
FDOT spokesman John McShaffrey cited weather as the main reason for the delay.
"Mother Nature is the biggest obstacle at this point -- she is why the contractor made the call minutes ago to call off the opening for tomorrow morning," he explained. "Most importantly, the Connector will not be opened until all needed signs, pavement markings, lighting, etc. is in place as the public's safety is paramount."
