NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - Even Hizzoner needs to clear the snow off his sidewalk during a snow storm.

Mayor Bill de Blasio got to work Friday removing the snow outside his home on 11th Street in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn.

Fox 5 shot video of the mayor hard at work at 7 a.m.

"This has been and remains a dangerous storm. It is going to be bitter cold today, and New Yorkers need to be extremely careful going outdoors. The best things people can do are to stay off the roads so we can clear them as fast as possible, and to check in on elderly and vulnerable neighbors who might need help this morning," said de Blasio.

On his Twitter account featuring a picture of himself shoveling snow, Mayor de Blasio reminded New Yorkers the PlowNYC feature was activated at NYC.gov which provides real-time updates of snow clearance.

During a late morning news conference in Woodside, Queens, de Blasio said his teenage son, Dante, would be taking over.

"From the door to the sidewalk and more on the sidewalk as it accumulates. He’ll be in charge from this point on," said de Blasio.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in New York issued winter storm warnings including a blizzard warning for Long Island and a winter storm warning for New York City, New York State, New Jersey and Connecticut through Friday at 1 p.m. but the warnings ended before 11 a.m.

Significant snow, sleet, and ice accumulated and impacted travel.
