Fire Damages Several Businesses In Flourtown, Pa

A community is devastated after fire destroys some long-time businesses in Flourtown, Montgomery County. It started Saturday night at the shopping center along Bethlehem Pike.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen has more on its impact. A handful of businesses now boarded up after a fire that started in a pizza shop caused widespread damage in this Flourtown Plaza. All of this damage has stunned a small community.

A video shows powerful flames devouring an iconic block of Springfield Township businesses Saturday night. The starting point inside the popular Flourtown Pizza Restaurant when officials say most stores were closed.

Fire officials say the incident began in the kitchen area of the pizza shop and though crews came from a nearby station they found a handful of work when they arrived.

The roof also gave way, but incident commanders say no one was hurt at least four neighboring businesses have smoke and water damage including another restaurant, a hair salon and dry cleaners but the pizza stop is considered a total loss. Shocked Flourtown residents drove by floored by a big blow to the neighborhood.

"I've been here 16 years at the ACME and we would come here on our lunch break to order food. Same with the other businesses," Shannon McNally said. "It's a really tiny town and when something like this happens people are upset because they are our neighbors, they are our friends."

The fire chief says they are still working on the cause of the fire. And they say despite the cold weather and icy conditions, weather did not hamper efforts in knocking the flames down.
