Freeze warnings are in effect for all of Central Florida this evening as an arctic blast has moved across the country and pushed into the Sunshine State.
Extremely cold weather swept across the northern part of the country overnight, dropping temperatures in some areas to well below 0 degrees.
A hard freeze warning has been issued for the northern half of the state. Emergency management officials warned that Monday night was expected to be the coldest night of this winter season, and record-low temperatures were expected to be broken in north Florida.
In our viewing area, temperatures will dip below freezing with wind chill temperatures at or below the mid-20s. Forecasters are reminding everyone to take precautions to protect plants, pets, pipes or people who may need special attention.
Area shelters have extended hours and are offering extra resources to fight the cold, for those who are without a home. Fern growers checked their irrigation systems to make sure they will be ready to combat cold weather.
