The Charlevoix County Sheriff's Department has confirmed two men from Birmingham died in a single-engine plane crash that happened off Addis Road, just east of Boyne City. Family and friends confirm 51-year-old Todd Lloyd and his partner, 38-year-old Christopher Neumann, died in that crash.

The aircraft was destroyed on impact shortly after taking off from Boyne City Municipal Airport. First responders were only able to make it to the scene by snowmobile. The cause of the crash has not been determined yet.

The plane, described as a Mooney Model M20R, was registered to Chaircovers and Linens, a business in Madison Heights. We learned Lloyd owns that business and another business, Top That Event, based in Livonia.

The treacherous weather conditions make it difficult to further investigate this crash. NTSB and FAA officials may not make it to town until Wednesday. In the meantime, the wreckage has been secured in an airport hangar in Charlevoix County.
