Rugby ball-shaped UFO sighting baffles UK aviation officials

Posted: Updated:
LONDON, UK -

United Kingdom aviation officials are baffled after an unexplainable UFO sighting over the English countryside.

The Daily Telegraph reports that last July, a pilot reported an object shaped like a rugby ball fly within a few feet of his plane while 34,000 feet in the air.

But, a recent report said the flying object could not be identified and the sighting couldn't be verified.

The pilot, whose name and airline wasn't released, said he was 20 miles west of Heathrow Airport, over the Berkshire countryside during the day, when the object reportedly appeared on the left-hand side of the cockpit window.

The pilot described the object as "cigar/rugby ball-like" in shape and "bright, silver and metallic".

The pilot said he was certain the object would hit, but he believes it passed "within a few feet" above the jet.

The report ruled out the possibility of another aircraft, meteorological balloon, toy balloons or military objects.
