Former Orlando Police Chief Val Demings to run for mayor of Orange County
ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Former Police Chief Val Demings will officially announce her campaign for mayor of Orange County on Thursday. She will oppose incumbent Mayor Teresa Jacobs.
Demings filed the paperwork to run for Orange County Mayor Tuesday morning. She plans to launch her campaign Thursday, Jan. 9 at 3 p.m. at Lake Eola Park in Orlando.
"For months, I've been asked by countless citizens to run for Orange County Mayor, Demings said. "They want a leader who will stand up for them. Like many of them, I too, have grown disappointed with the forgotten promises of the current administration. That's why I'm running for Mayor."
Demings is affliated with Democrats and 2012 she lost a close congressional race to Republican Congressman Daniel Webster.
