The Sanford Police Department has identified a man as the prime suspect in the murder of a woman at a local insurance agency.
Cynthia McGee Bryant, 53, was found shot to death just after noon on Monday at McGee Insurance, at 400 West 25th Street in Sanford. Police are now looking for Bryant's boyfriend, 46-year-old Richard L. Barnes, whom they describe as armed and dangerous.
Witnesses said Barnes was seen in the area shortly before the fatal shooting, according to investigators. The witnesses also told detectives that moments after they heard gunshots, Barnes was seen leaving the area.
A short time later, a patron arrived at the insurance office to pay a bill and found Bryant deceased and contacted 911.
"She would help me, she always gave me good advice," said the victim's hairdresser, Tiffany Williams. "She was like a role model to me. She was a really good woman. Spiritually she helped me. She was a preacher of the gospel. She was just a good woman. She didn't deserve that. She didn't deserve it."
Williams had been Bryant's hairdresser for close to a decade. She said they talked about everything at her weekly appointments and Bryant never let on if she felt in danger.
"She never mentioned having a problem. Everybody loved her, they respected her. There was never an issue with anybody," Williams added.
Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Barnes is asked to call 911 and is advised not to take any personal action.
Witnesses described Barnes as wearing a grayish-blue hoodie sweatshirt, blue work pants and glasses. He is 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. Police say he does not have a residence in the Sanford area.
