Car found in the water in Port Orange

Port Orange Police and Fire Rescue Departments responded to S. Williamson Blvd at Anita Street (Moody Bride and Spruce Creek) regarding a single vehicle that had driven off the roadway into Spruce Creek.

Officers arrived on the scene and observed a vehicle completely submerged in the water in the center of Spruce Creek partially wedged against the bridge pylons.

Rescue workers entered the water in an attempt to locate occupants of the vehicle. The driver was the only person found in the car and he was deceased. The vehicle in question was a Nissan SUV Pathfinder and it took two trucks to remove the automobile from the water.

The deceased was identified as Michael K. Gross of Port Orange.
This traffic fatality remains open and is currently under investigation by Port Orange Traffic Homicide Investigators.
