NJ Legislature Dodging Important Issues?

Posted: Updated:
Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) - There are so many big issues looming in New Jersey, such as the double-dipping epidemic which costs hundreds of millions of dollars to the pension system, yet the New Jersey legislature seems to put those kinds of concerns on hold to take care of the more trivial topics like who can and cannot perform wedding ceremonies.

“The senate came up with a bill that would allow county freeholders and former mayors to perform ceremonies. The senate said, oh no you can’t do that, we agree with former mayors, but we don’t want county freeholders to perform ceremonies, and this is the kind of stuff they are dealing with,” Mark Lagerkvist of NJ watchdog said.

Lagerkvist feels like they need to switch their priorities and start focusing more on the important topics that are hitting New Jersey.

“I think pension reform is a big thing that they have to do, and they’ve been ducking the double-dipping issue for a long time. I think things to do with property taxes, budget, things that would save money and things that would actually help taxpayers as compared to the trivial stuff that they’re bogged down in,” he said.

In terms of the double-dipping problem, many members of the state house who are responsible for dealing with these issues are the ones who are in fact getting two paychecks, so the likelihood that they are going to address this issue anytime soon is extremely slim.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
