CARACAS, Venezuela (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) — Police near Puerto Cabello in Venezuela have made five arrests, and are still gathering more evidence, in the murder of a beauty queen who graduated from the University of Central Florida.
On Monday night, 29-year-old Monica Spear and her ex-husband were on the side of the road with a broken-down car, when they were shot and killed during a robbery attempt. Their five year old daughter was also injured.
Investigators say some of the suspects are younger than 18 years old.
Spear and her family moved to Orlando in 2000. She graduated from UCF in 2004 and was crowned Miss Venezuela that same year.
Spear's parents are now in Venezuela planning her funeral and trying to bring her daughter Maya back to the United States.
